A Model of Community, Culture, Opportunity, and Impact

Celebrating the heart of South Los Angeles through art, mentorship, and economic opportunity

Celebrating the heart of South Los Angeles through art, mentorship, and economic opportunity

The Slauson Corridor is transforming one of Los Angeles’ most iconic streets into a vibrant, community-led space for art, mentorship, and economic opportunity, celebrating local history and empowering the people who call Slauson home.

The Slauson Corridor is a community-led cultural and economic development initiative rooted in one of the most iconic and misunderstood corridors in Los Angeles. Stretching from the historic Slauson Super Mall to the intersection of Slauson Avenue and Hooper Avenue, this three-mile corridor represents the lived history, resilience, and creative power of South Los Angeles. Long defined by external narratives, Slauson has always been a place of innovation, cultural influence, and deep community investment long before formal programs or institutions existed.

The Slauson Corridor project is designed to reclaim, reframe, and reinvest in this legacy by creating safe, structured, and inclusive spaces where art, culture, and economic opportunity intersect. While public art is one of the most visible elements of the corridor, it is not the sole focus. Art serves as both an entry point and a universal language, supporting healing, storytelling, workforce development, and community pride. Through curated permanent installations, rotating works, and accessible practice spaces, the corridor supports artists at all stages while activating underutilized walls as assets rather than liabilities.

Drawing from decades of experience in community-based arts, cultural placemaking, restorative practices, and public-private collaboration, the Slauson Corridor team brings a proven operational framework to this work. Our approach is informed by established models that have successfully balanced artists, residents, city agencies, and private stakeholders in complex urban environments. That experience allows us to navigate permitting, partnerships, community accountability, and risk management without compromising cultural integrity.
Permanent murals along the corridor serve as legacy installations that honor history and excellence, while designated rotating walls provide accessible entry points for emerging artists to develop their craft. These spaces are supported by structured agreements, safety planning, and clear expectations that protect both artists and the surrounding community. This layered model allows creative expression to flourish while maintaining order, transparency, and mutual respect.
What distinguishes the Slauson Corridor is not only its programming, but its governance and lived connection to place. Our leadership and partners include individuals with deep roots in South Los Angeles and long-standing experience working alongside city officials, nonprofit institutions, and community stakeholders. This is not an external intervention. It is a locally anchored effort guided by people who understand the cultural, social, and operational realities of Slauson Avenue.
The Slauson Corridor is committed to measurable impact. Our outcomes prioritize paid creative opportunities, local economic participation, youth engagement, conflict reduction through restorative practices, and the long-term preservation of cultural identity. Through careful documentation and evaluation, this corridor is designed to serve as a scalable model for other cities seeking to invest in community-led cultural development without displacement.

This work is about stewardship, not spectacle.
It is about building systems that allow culture to thrive responsibly.
And it is about proving that when communities are trusted and resourced, they create outcomes that benefit the entire city.
Slauson Corridor invites public agencies, philanthropic partners, private sponsors, and community stakeholders to participate in a project grounded in experience, accountability, and long-term vision, one that honors what has always existed while building what is possible next.
