Authenticity Rooted in Tradition
The Slauson Corridor is a community-led cultural and economic development initiative rooted in one of the most iconic and misunderstood corridors in Los Angeles. Stretching from the historic Slauson Super Mall to the intersection of Slauson Avenue and Hooper Avenue, this three-mile corridor represents the lived history, resilience, and creative power of South Los Angeles. Long defined by external narratives, Slauson has always been a place of innovation, cultural influence, and deep community investment long before formal programs or institutions existed.
The Power of Art
The Slauson Corridor project is designed to reclaim, reframe, and reinvest in this legacy by creating safe, structured, and inclusive spaces where art, culture, and economic opportunity intersect. While public art is one of the most visible elements of the corridor, it is not the sole focus. Art serves as both an entry point and a universal language, supporting healing, storytelling, workforce development, and community pride. Through curated permanent installations, rotating works, and accessible practice spaces, the corridor supports artists at all stages while activating underutilized walls as assets rather than liabilities.
Drawing from decades of experience in community-based arts, cultural placemaking, restorative practices, and public-private collaboration, the Slauson Corridor team brings a proven operational framework to this work. Our approach is informed by established models that have successfully balanced artists, residents, city agencies, and private stakeholders in complex urban environments. That experience allows us to navigate permitting, partnerships, community accountability, and risk management without compromising cultural integrity.
